Stelvio National Park

parco nazionale stelvio

The Stelvio National Park was created to preserve and protect the natural environment but also to study and admire it. The Stelvio Park occupies an area of just under 50,000 acres in six municipalities of the Alta Valtellina. In this area of the park are located the most impressive mountain ranges, on the border with Trentino and Atesino sectors. The group Ortler characterizes the eastern landscape, giving rise to the most impressive glacial landscapes of the entire Alpine arc. To the south, the rocks of the areas are mainly metamorphic nature (the phyllites of Bormio), while the more northern districts are characterized by massive sedimentary limestone (mainly dolomite main) that make up the so-called "internal Dolomites". Rich fauna: deer and ibex are the two most representative ungulates, but you can not mention the majestic bearded vulture,  that nests here with several couples.
